The Car Debacle – Are we getting disqualified?

You know, we decided to participate in this rally and knew from day 1 that we would need a car. The Adventurists required us to register it by May 31st and so May rolled around and we started looking at options. We had contacts in Berlin, München, and Bologna.

We spent countless hours looking at autotrader, calling our friends, researching the cars, reading books about rallies, and trying to find the perfect car. Then we found it in Italy, called our Italian contacts who assured us they would take care of it and that we didn’t need to worry. Our contacts were business partner’s of Enrique’s dad and we were assured they were trustworthy so we stopped thinking about the car until the week prior to the registration deadline.

It seemed like they had been extremely busy and hadn’t had time to go look at the cars, but we were assured they would do it soon. And soon rolled in, and it rolled out, and we still didn’t have a car. And then we found out that three Mexicans couldn’t legally own a car in Italy without residing there for at least 90 days.

So we turned to München to a very close friend of Vogel. Guman (as he likes to be called) said he would do it in a jiffy and we shan’t worry. He asked us to research the legal aspect of it, and we found out that three Mexicans couldn’t legally own a car in Germany without residing there. …sigh…

Registration was due a week ago, we still don’t have a car. We’re so damn close of getting disqualified!
